"Our opinion:
Amplid is the brand of the legendary German snowboarder, Peter Bauer, producing twin-tip skis for freestyle, backcountry and freeride. The Ego Trip Evolution is the only model with a flat tail specifically designed for Freerando, although other models of the classic range such as the as Rockwell or Hill Bill could be mounted touring bindings too.
On the snow:
The Ego Trip retains the same shape but thanks to a new construction, it is now lighter (150 gr lighter than last year’s model). Faithful to the concept that made the successful Rockwell, namely large curves with beautiful rockered tips and a classic camber underfoot, the Ego Trip’s construction exudes robustness and manufacturing efficiency. By losing weight the Ego Trip has gained manoeuvrability and is no longer restricted to large radius turns that can cause you unwillingly to gain speed. Of course, they’ve lost some stability but the increased ability to cope with all situations encountered in touring is a real plus. Punchy in support, alive and raring to change direction, light underfoot, the Ego Trip is a real feast which we can only fault for tip vibration on hard snow. For everything else, it has something to flatter your ego!
Who it’s for - The ski tourer who wants an atypical ski that’s both strong and light.
Positives - Versatility on-piste, feel, playfulness
Negatives - A tendency to vibrate on the hard snow, the price
