The 21/22 Freequencer

With the FREEQUENCER, we wanted to built the most bulletproof and most affordable splitboard on the market. I believe you won’t get “more splitboard” for the buck than you will with the FREEQUENCER. So what did we do to achieve that – pretty high – goal: The Freequencer is baked in the mould of our Milligram Split, but built to appeal to a broader spectrum of shredders.
In a different age, Peter Bauer might have racked up a truly monstrous follower count. As a multiple world champion and Burton team stalwart with serious freeride chops, there’s every chance he’d be doing Mark McMorris numbers. Of course, that all happened in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, when Mark Zuckerberg still had his baby teeth and the only place you saw a # symbol was on a payphone.
The bread and butter of Amplid’s snowboard program, our Playful All-Mountain range is the product of endless evolution and improvement. Each year these progressive snowboards benefit from trickle-down tech and clever tweaks to keep them ahead of the pack.
3D Crust Buster Nose - A convex nose profile which improves tracking and fluidity in three-dimensional snow. To retain responsiveness, the contact points are not lifted.
This entire family has a different approach to the boards’ tech specs matching the riders bio specs. It’s not a conventional product line, where you find one board in 3 lengths and widths! It’s a line where you find several different models, in one length each – and I’m confident you’ll find a geometry to add to your quiver as well. At least one !!!
Ski planes, sleds, big mountains, skis/snowboards. What's not to like? We had more tricky conditions this year, but we certainly made the best of it.
With snow falling across North America and the pre-season stoke in full swing, I figured it was time to get last spring's edit done...
The Amplid Centrifugal Collection - As the names says it already: those boards are meant to play with the centrifugal force. These are boards for the speed-hungry technically advanced all-mountain rider. Carving big arcs on early morning curdory while laying out trenches is one “core competence” of these boards. But some geometries in this board category are also designed to float really really well in waist deep powder. When I get asked, whether the Centrifugal Boards are a kind of a flagship range where we are showcasing all our latest space age technology?
Sometimes we all desire to be far away from our comfort zone. We think that we don’t need to be necessarily so far off to feel miles away from the daily life. We are used to travel in such fast rhythm that we almost forget to have a closer look at what is surrounding us. It’s possible to travel deeper, slower with an open mind.
This board is by far one of the best carving boards I’ve ever been on. It takes things up a notch and changes the whole dynamic of how you ride. This isn’t going to be for everyone, but for those that have a hard on for Korua they need to be looking at this. It’s a board that is so unique in its ride I don’t think this review does it justice.

Bagley Icefield

At the heart of the Bagley is Mt. St. Elias. St. Elias has captured my imagination for the last 2 decades. Rising 18,008 feet in only 10 miles from the head of Icy Bay on the Gulf Coast of Alaska. I have traveled past her many times on the sea, gazing wide eyed up at the immense vertical relief, imagining the first ascent by the Duke of Abruzzi in 1897. The closest civilization lies over a 100 miles to the North, McCarthy. This old mining town is surrounded by towering icefalls and large, glacial fed rivers. Zack Barrett is a 3rd generation descendent of a miner that toiled away in the copper mines at the turn of the last century.

BAIKAL - THE MOVIE

Siberia has something magical, you can only catch it by living it. Here is Gwen's and Ana's adventures, travelling to Baikal. A trip created by simple but impressive elements: Perfect powder, a frozen lake, a tiny cabin, a train ride and amazing local people.

RIDING JAPOW

We have shipped a Test Pilot Board to Boris Anthony, who is currently spending the winter in Japan. Next to very constructive inputs he has sent us this little clip. Attention: If you didn't get to ride pow in a winter wonderland this season - you'd better not watch this, as it might be too beautiful!

THE SEASON'S DEEPEST

It’s very simple: This was the deepest day of the season! Watch Amplid founder Peter Bauer and teamrider Stewart Orr, snorkeling through serious pow. Big shout out to BK (www.mediaproductionbk.com) for filming in such damp and cold conditions and the excellent editing job. And to Pez at Hochkeil Resort for switching on the lifts, only for us.
Fjord Lines is a web series about splitboarding in Norway´s most spectacular mountain ranges. In this series snowboarder and Native Adventures guide Tron Dyb shares some of his adventurous days in the mountains with riding of both unnamed and classic lines around Norway.
Catboarding in Georgia is an absolute must. Georgia, the country on the Black Sea, nestled between the Greater and Lesser Caucasus Mountains, gets heavy snowfalls every winter and is still quite undeveloped except for a few areas. We first developed Bakhmaro with our partner and last season moved on to a completely new region behind Bakhmaro's mountains, Adcharia. We found perfect free freeride terrain, perfect for catskiing, in a cosy little mountain hut with an unforgettable panoramic view.
You are also sick of fiddling around with your heel riser, while splitting up a steep face? With Amplid’s revolutionary invention, the HEEL RISER APP, you can adjust your splitboard binding via voice control while being in hiking mode. All you need is our little blue tooth transmission pack - plug it into your binding, synch it with the app, and your hiking experience will be on a totally different stoke level.

SURFING GROOMERS

When filmmaker BK received his new highspeed camera, he called in and said he would need „fast moving objects“ to test his new gear. So Amplid founder PB and his shred buddy Stewart took out their new Souly Grails and served as those requested objects. Lean back and enjoy a dose of centrifugal force in „SURFING GROOMERS“.
Sick of vibrating noses and unnerving tip chatter? Then check out Amplid’s ANTIPHASE damping system. Inspired by noise cancellation systems, this technology will give you the most stable ride you'll ever experience. Amplid founder and tech wizard Peter Bauer sheds light into ANTIPHASE‘s RnD process in this new NOTES FROM THE LAB episode…
Photographer, filmmaker and snowboarder Balazs Kovacs has a very own philosophy when it gets to powder shapes. But with Amplid's "Weird Blanks" he can free his mind and turn his weirdest dream shape into reality...

BOARD MEETING

There are days (=and snow conditions) when you simply have to turn off your computer, cancel your meetings and go out for a ride. Nothing beats a good day out in the pow with the crew you work with. Two days ago was one of those days, with 40 cm of fresh and no other tracks except ours.

SPLIT PERSONALITIES

Snowboarder and filmmaker Mario Käppeli loves to collect moments. He is addicted to documenting happenings, ideally from somewhere out there in the wild mountain world. Stored in his brain or on hard drives, those moments cater as entertaining fireside tales, or simply as ingredients to make short movies about splitboarding with friends.
The Snommelier is one of five boards in Amplid’s “Future Shapes” collection, which Amplid describes like this: “Peter’s [Amplid Founder] most bonkers board concepts, Amplid’s Future Shapes snowboard family snubs the last 40 years of snowboard know-how in a bid to bring fresh ideas to the fore. Experimental by design, these colourful rogues are not just different for the sake of it: each board’s dimensions are artfully curved and skillfully balanced to create a unique personality.”
When our friend and photographer Rasmus Kaessmann called in the other day, desperately begging for a 135 cm short splitboard for his son Taavi, PB intervened: „Hey buddy, I will send you something - including instructions. Please film it with your phone.“ Deal!
Check Taavi’s stoke – priceless! We can‘t stop watching it. Thanks for sharing the love!!!
Amplid came to the conclusion that companies who profit from the use of the environment should – at least - strive to do no harm to the planet, and in the best case actively work to help repair the damage we’ve already inflicted. Building snowboards will always have an environmental footprint, so our goal is to minimize this footprint, whenever possible, by developing new eco-tech and manufacturing processes. And by being the first snowboard company to follow such an eco-correct manufacturing process, Amplid won the first ISPO Eco Award already in 2012 with their “Green Light Project” in.
