Each year, around March time, a collection of die-hard freeride skiers assemble on the Kaunertal glacier to put the following season's freeride and touring skis through their paces. Here's what the testers thought of Amplid's new full carbon touring ski, the Facelift.
"The Facelift from Amplid impressed us with its very favourable size to weight ratio. In the length of 184cm and 108mm under the binding the ski weighs just 1575g. This has been achieved with a clever construction of light wood, carbon laminates and with the absence of a topsheet. The handsome carbon appearance looks super. On the slopes ski carves superbly and it is easy to manoeuvre. It loses a little bit of edge hold at a high speeds, but nevertheless holds you in the turn. Like other skis with a high carbon content, the facelift has slight weaknesses in bumpy terrain, because the somewhat rigid flex leads to an agitated skiing feeling. However, all this is forgotten in the powder, because its super lift provides a really surfy feeling. With fast straight lines, the facelift is somewhat flexible, but otherwise stable and predictable in almost every situation. A textbook free tourer, thumbs up!"
