Milligram Review: SnowSurf's "Tester Choice" Award

PLUS: Lightness, power, grip, stability, snow feel.

MINUS: A minimum level of experience is required to truly understand and ride this board.

It's already the tenth year for the Amplid Milligram, the board that helped make lightweight construction the standard in the world of splitboarding. This new version, set to release for the winters of 2025 and 2026, follows in the footsteps of its predecessor, with some subtle adjustments and improvements characteristic of Amplid boss Peter Bauer's meticulous approach. Constantly testing, retesting, and refining to eliminate even the slightest imperfections, Peter runs a brand, wins banked slaloms, mounts bindings, chats with customers in test lounges, and rides more powder every winter than most riders.

The flex is slightly stiff but evenly distributed, offering a blend of firmness and a hint of softness that gives excellent snow feel. This Milligram remains firm enough to inspire total confidence on edge, whether climbing or descending through tight terrain, while still maintaining playability for those with a solid level of experience. It performs well in wide, high-speed turns, even on hard snow, and stays dynamic and nimble when navigating dense forests with limited visibility or weaving through tight fir trees.

Well-balanced, the Milligram truly shines at higher speeds; you need to commit to your ride and the slope. As one tester remarked, "I couldn't see myself riding it by halves." It has "great potential on the slope," with precise edge grip that instills confidence in challenging sections where jump turns are necessary. Overall, it favors a fairly straight line, and on hard snow, it requires a bit of twisting to play with its shorter radius.

In terms of design, it merges slightly with the outgoing Millisurf, borrowing inspiration from its tail. There's a lot of potential in this new Amplid Milligram—it's a little smoother, but still demands an experienced rider; otherwise, it might get the better of you. Between splitboard runs, we also took it for a spin on the slopes, where it excelled in carving and wasn't cumbersome at all. We had a blast making large, fast turns at high speeds.

This 2025-2026 version of the Amplid Milligram is yet another impressive success.
